General Description
The position of Work Cell Lead is responsible for supervising operations of Kinetex work cell within the Production Manufacturing Quality Control Department. This includes inspection and monitoring of progress of passing rate of different part numbers related to the work cell.

Job and Responsibilities

General Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Operate High Performance Liquid Chromatography systems and test all columns produced by production.
• Review all test data captured by each laboratory technician and tabulate productivity.
• Monitor passing rate and report progress of work cell on a daily basis.
• Prepare reports and charts to show work cell progress.
• Report all trends on each product number tested.
• Monitor test equipment to check apparatus for conformance to standard requirements.
• Schedule columns for testing for each laboratory technician.
• Follow and monitor all applicable safety requirements and report safety issues to Safety Manager.
• Work with departments to provide information requested by production, marketing, sales, and media manufacturing quality control.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Production Manufacturing Quality Control Manager.
Qualifications
• BS in Chemistry and have experience with statistical analysis.
• Minimum 3-5 yrs experience as a work cell lead in an industrial or lean manufacturing environment, preferably in chemical batch processing or process chemistry environment.
• Minimum 2-3 years supervisory experience.
• Must have extensive knowledge of High Performance Liquid Chromatography principles.
• Must have understanding flow of columns through Production and work cell.
• Must be detail oriented and possess strong analytical, organizational, and computer skills.

General Summary

This person will support the Production areas of Phenomenex. This individual will test HPLC columns for key performance indicators to ensure they meet strict specification requirements. This person will assess results to determine pass/fail criteria and will elevate any quality related issues to their immediate Supervisor/Lead.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Test HPLC columns manufactured by Phenomenex’s Production area
• Prepare standards and reagents used for testing
• Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2008 guidelines
• Review data and determine to accept or reject columns based on QC specifications
• Maintain and perform minor replacement parts on HPLC instruments
• Discard waste appropriately from testing and keep work area clean and organized
• Apply appropriate “5S” principles in work station
• Fully understand and follow the content of “Department Orientation” booklet
• Follow all applicable safety requirements
• Support and understand yearly departmental goals
• Follow appropriate standard operating procedures
• Perform other job-related duties as requested by customers and/ or management

Requirements:
• Associates Degree or Other Certification in Life Sciences preferred
• Ensures all work is accurate and free of errors / defects

Lab Technician, High Performance Liquid Chromatography

General Summary
This position is responsible for manufacturing a variety of different HPLC columns; will require excellent organization, good time management, and attention to detail. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

Duties and Responsibilities
Support and/or Lead R&D efforts in the design and development of novel, high performance, sol-gel based medias and technologies for use in liquid chromatography and solid phase extraction.
• Pack different sorbents in column hardware (sorbents include silica, GPC, Polymer, etc.)
• Follow written instructions (SOP) for all critical processes
• Follow all Safety procedures, including wearing appropriate protective equipment
• Prepare packing solvents and slurry solvents according to written instructions
• Material verification and Inspection, be diligent to insure:
• Proper batch number is being used
• The correct sorbent material has been prepped
• Column Assembly being packed has correct tags
• Production card, label on sorbent beaker, and Column Assembly tags all match
• Column Assembly is the correct length
• Column Assembly has the correct I.D.
• Column Assembly has the correct end fittings
1. Proper micron size frits are being used
2. End fittings are swaged correctly
3. Enter column production information into the TSA system
• Schedule time efficiently to complete work (production cards) in order of priority
• Keep all work areas, equipment, and tools neat, clean, and organized.
• Maintain and repair the packing equipment (pumps, tools, etc) as needed.
• Transfer completed columns with documentation to QC department for testing.
• Work on Special Projects as assigned by Production Manager.
• Other jobs duties as assigned

General Summary

The Research Scientist I, Sol-Gel Chemistry, is responsible for the development of the general platform, as well as specific products based on Sol-Gel Technology. This may include leading a team of scientists and engineers to develop new HPLC, SPE and other separation science consumables, as well as taking sole responsibility for developing new manufacturing or analytical techniques used to create or improve products and technology.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Support and/or lead R&D efforts in the design and development of high performance, sol gel based medias and technologies for use in liquid chromatography and solid phase extraction.
• Research and develop novel material, synthetic routes, and particle and monolith formation technologies.
• Research, test and implement new particulate and monolith manufacturing technology and equipment into mainstream production.
• Work closely with other members of the R&D group to ensure new products meet the needs of the marketplace in terms of application and quality.
• Develop applications for new products and technologies.
• Lead technical support and trouble-shooting investigations in cooperation with the Technical Dept. to support customer and product needs.
• Develop meaningful and discriminating QC tests for all new products in conjunction with the QC Supervisor.
• Maintain detailed, accurate, legible records of all experiments, and graph all relevant trend data along with the appropriate controls and blanks.
• Supervise, manage and assign work to staff research associates and technicians as required for research programs.
• Work with R&D, Sales and Marketing to launch and promote new methods and products to the scientific community.
• Provide support to Marketing on brochures, web, technical and seminar content.
• Other job duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• PhD in Analytical / Organic/ Biochemical areas required.
• At least 3 years of experience in Sol-Gel Chemistry.
• Great attention to detail to ensure work is accurate and free of errors / defects
• Requires analytical thinking and presenting ideas.
• Excellent presentation skills, as you will may be presenting to large groups
• Sound judgment and reasoning.
